Art Workshop in Canada
A one-day art workshop in Canada. Learn the fundamental notions of plein air painting. And develop the skills to effectively depict the shapes and depth of the landscape in front of you. Offered every August in the National Capital Region and open to artists of all levels.
Offered twice, an introductory course to plein air painting that will help you understand basic principles such as field of vision, perspective, colors, texture and composition. Make the leap from the studio to the outdoors and tackle your landscape painting with confidence.
Plein air painting can be challenging as it forces us to see actively and consider the interaction between the landscape elements. It also takes us out of our comfort zone as we try to capture the shapes and depth of the scenery in front of us. When painting outdoors, the first twenty minutes can be intimidating. But, brief demonstrations, personalized feedback, helpful hints, and gentle critique will boost your confidence.
You will learn to choose a location, analyze the light, understand the colors (values) and textures and deconstruct the subject matter to arrive to a great composition. Also, you will be able to tell why you choose a subject and what is your physical situation in relationship to the selected landscape. For this, some basic notions of perspective drawing are necessary.
Our first outing takes place in the Pontiac region, near Portage du Fort (Québec), as for the second one, it will take place in Deep River (Ontario). These are perfect locations for a plein air workshop because of its topography, balmy atmosphere and seducing light. Also, it happens in August, a beautiful time of the year.
By the end of this one-day art workshop, you will be able to head out into the field with the confidence that you need to complete a true plein air painting.
This art course offered in the Ottawa region is helpful for artists of all levels in painting and drawing experience. You will need an easel, your usual painting materials, a color wheel and a view catcher.
