Biography

My life took a huge turn when I was 18. I became “ME.” Antiquity to Picasso filled me with an appreciation of the Arts. Five months of travel in Europe by auto at a time when the architecture and landscapes were pure. Each of the seven counties provided a different stimulus. The SEA. The MOUNTAINS. The TILLED SOIL RAW, UNTAMED, UNSPOILED. So different from my home in Southern California. This trip inspired me to get my degree in Graphic Design and Fine Art and inspired me to paint my memories.

Statement

Blue Skies, expansive oceans, mountains – all that nature offers inspired me to paint this series. Images are drawn from days of travel, but my desire was to abstractly interpret the vistas in a manner that encourages the viewer to stay a while and ponder where they might have experienced such a view.

Texture, color, and shapes enliven the paintings.  Lack of perspective gives the viewer an opportunity to be part of the creative process by using their imagination. A palette knife, acrylic paints, and canvas are my tools. The palette knife expands and simplifies my gestures. Acrylic paint allows for speed of execution and the canvas provides a ground that gives to the pressure of my tools to build up texture.
