Biography
Luc Alain has been freelance commercial illustrator and cartoonist for over 30 years. His work has been seen in numerous publications: magazines (Ottawa Life), weekly newspapers (Toronto Express), children’s books (The Proud Little Ant), documentaries (Polygamy in Canada), games, cartoon strips, etc. Since 2017 however, Luc’s artistic journey has taken him to a new level of seemingly limitless creativity and expression by also including acrylics and pastels on paper and canvas.
Now he paints because he needs to paint. The canvas invites him to tell a story with images, shapes and colours that seize attention, provoke emotions and stimulate reflection. Luc past experiences and travels have given him thoughts and messages that best be conveyed. As all humans are often challenged by obstacles with suffering or at times blessed with accomplishments, the human condition should be celebrated by visual interpretations he enjoys to conceive via a paint brush or by any other means.
Statement: Dos | Backs
Creating art centered around the portrayal of nude backs is a profound exploration of the human form and an intimate study of vulnerability, strength, and beauty. My artistic focus on drawing and painting these subjects delves into the essence of human anatomy while evoking emotions and narratives that transcend the physical.
The human back, devoid of facial expression, invites the viewer to contemplate the rawness of existence and the unspoken stories hidden within the curves, lines, and shadows. Each stroke of my brush or pencil captures not just the contours of the body but also the essence of the individual, inviting viewers to reflect upon their own experiences, emotions, and connections to the human condition.
