Biography

Laura Malbogat’s career has focused and shifted between education and counselling. Her career has created opportunities to live and work in South Africa, Malaysia and Zimbabwe. She holds a Master’s in Counselling and is a certified professional executive coach. She continues to work part-time as a therapist and consultant. 

Born to a Polish father and Italian mother, Laura’s mixed heritage and upbringing in Montreal as a first-generation Canadian shaped her worldview and piqued her interest in exploring the world. With greater flexibility and time, Laura now channels her energy into painting, drawing inspiration from her diverse travel experiences and her curiosity to capture the brevity of changing landscapes.

There is a synergy needed between clients and counselling – similar to the required synergy between a blank canvas and painting, one stroke at a time. She treasures the mindfulness, attention, and presence that painting requires, seeing it as a meditative practice that mirrors the carefull focus needed in counselling.

Statement

I draw inspiration from masters like Monet and Turner, whose mastery of light, sky, and landscape continues to resonate with me. As a current painter, I draw inspiration from artists like Zara Foreman, Michael Claxton, and Grace Croughton. Much like them, I seek to create those fleeting, almost magical moments that draw the viewer in, inviting them to see and experience the world through my eyes. Water and sky—vast and elusive elements—become my canvas, where I strive to render them with movement, depth and texture. I aim for the viewer to be drawn into my paintings and to evoke a dialogue between nature and perception.

My approach aims to capture the essence and fleeting movement in the sky, clouds and wide, open landscapes. I aim to reflect the evolving movement and interplay between ‘space’ and ‘sky’. The sky alters how we see and experience space. I want viewers to look at the paintings and be stirred, to evoke emotions and nudge memories to the surface. My works offer my viewers a voyage through light, space, and memory.
